GS1 Data Quality Framework, Standards and Guidelines

The success of data synchronisation – and an efficient supply chain – relies on good quality data. You need tools to maintain high quality data, so that you can increase efficiency, reduce costs and collaborate more effectively with trading partners.

To help you ensure that all data entered into the GS1 Global Data Synchronisation Network (GDSN) is accurate and properly classified, GS1 has developed two complementary strategies to assist in improving data quality.

GS1 Data Quality Framework

The GS1 Data Quality Framework is aligned to the GDSN, and uses GS1 standards. Developed by industry and for industry, it is a best-practice guide to help you implement a sustainable data quality strategy in your organisation.

The Framework can be used by:

  • Suppliers: to assess and continuously improve the quality of their master data

  • Retailers: to ensure their internal processes protect the integrity of the data they synchronise with their trading partners

GS1 Global Product Classification

The GS1 Global Product Classification (GPC) gives buyers and sellers a common language for grouping products in the same way, everywhere in the world.

It improves the accuracy, integrity and speed of GDSN, breaks down language barriers and makes reporting much easier.

If you are using the GDSN, you are obliged to follow the GPC. Many industries also use the GPC for other purposes, such as category management, traceability and business intelligence.
