Location master data has been identified as a critical gap to achieving increased supply chain visibility. Location master data today is non-existent in any digitalised framework.

Location master data has been identified as a critical gap to achieving increased supply chain visibility. Location master data today is non-existent in any digitalised framework.

Established in August 2019 at industry’s request; the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications understood the potential and provided pilot funding. The pilot helped demonstrate the publication, storage, retrieval and exchange of location master data. It provided a precursor to establishing a National Location Registry for the Australian Freight & Logistics industry.

The Steering Committee accepted pilot findings and recommendation to proceed to build the registry.

Understanding the specific parameters of a location where physical transport processes take place has been identified as a critical component to achieving effective supply chain visibility. In keeping with the supply chain efficiency pillar of the National Freight & Supply Chain strategy, the registry provides essential data to drive productivity improvements in the Transport & Logistics industry.

  • Central database containing accurate location information and extended attributes for effective management of:

  • Trading or operating hours for peak periods

  • Safety constraints at a site

  • Driver amenities available

  • Weight/height restrictions

  • Dedicated truck entry points

  • Other site requirements, such as the wearing of hard hats

  • Accessed via web or API

  • Subscription model to link to internal systems and maintain currency via updates

  • Data provided directly from source

  • Leveraging global data standards
