Maintain traceability standards and avoid supply chain delays with SSCC compliance
Incorrect SSCC labelling is the second highest cause of delay and rejection in the supply chain, following closely behind pallet issues.
Commonly referred to as SSCC, a Serial Shipping Container Code is an outer identification label that uniquely identifies individual logistics units, such as a pallet or case.
The SSCC is encoded in a GS1-128, GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR Code barcode and an Electronic Product Code (EPC®)–enabled Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag and holds unique identifiers for that specific logistics unit.
When applied correctly, SSCC pallet labelling enhances logistical efficacy, improves data integrity, enhances stock management, provides increased visibility and traceability throughout the entire supply chain and reduces the risk of pallet rejection or costly returns.
With automation increasing across the supply chain, it is crucial for manufacturers to achieve compliance as the slightest error in the label can cause major disruption to the flow of products.
The most common errors causing non-compliance in SSCC labelling are print or label quality, incorrect barcode type, missing or incorrect information, and mismatched labels. Following key elements will help reduce errors and achieve compliant SSCC labelling:
