How to be sure it will work with EANnet® (December 2005)

Choosing software that meets all the requirements of EANnet is easy with a new certification program run by GS1 Australia.
A distinctive logo will make it simple for members to identify software that has been fully tested by GS1 Australia and retested when new versions are released to make sure solutions support:
- The complete EANnet data set
- All error and warning messages
- Upload processes
- All action codes, including new products, price changes and deletions
- Static item and price only transactions
GS1 Australia's Marcel Sieira stressed however that while EANnet certification guaranteed the software's compatibility with EANnet, the program did not assess other areas of its performance or vendor support.
"GS1 Australia is working hard to ensure EANnet users have a wide choice of quality, certified solutions to help them with their EANnet journey," he said. "As these software tools greatly assist companies maintain their product and pricing data on EANnet®, it's important they work as seamlessly as possible - that's what EANnet® certification promises."
Today, a number of GS1 Australia Alliance Partners have embarked on the EANnet Certification Programme. Pronto has already completed the process, whilst GXS, Leadtec and Bizcaps are work in progress.
Among many software providers about to start the certification are Innovit and AAPT Commerce Solutions.
Innovit's CEO Bang Chau said his company was seeking certification for both retail and supplier solutions.
"The certification program is a way to assure our customers and prospective customers that we've done our homework," he said.
"The right solution removes the technicalities associated with data synchronisation and allows you to move beyond compliance issues so that you can focus on getting all the benefits of data management for your business."
AAPT's Senior Product Marketing Manager - Commerce Solutions, Alex Graham said her company saw the program as an opportunity to add value to EANnet.
"The certification process is extremely important because it represents a standard for industry," she said.
