GSMP
User involvement
Participation matrix
The Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) participation matrix is regularly updated by GS1 showing the global participants involved in the various GSMP working, advisory and technical groups. Participants include members from GS1 Member Organisations
and user companies, both international and regional players. If you are interested in getting involved in any of the these groups, you can do so either directly or through the GS1 Australia local GSMP process.
Users can become involved in the GSMP as a member (voting rights) or as a participant (non voting rights) in any of the following Business Requirement Groups (BRG's) and/or Technical Requirement Groups (TRG's).
Business Requirement Groups (BRG's)
These groups provide a business perspective to support the standards development efforts of the GSMP. These groups operate in the below regions and are organised by business process in order to ensure interoperability across industries and industry sub sectors.
The BRG regions are:
- Asia Pacific
- Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA)
- Latin America
- North America
Each region includes the below BRG:
- Align data
- Deliver
- Order
- Pay
- Plan
Responsibilities
The role of a BRG member/participant includes the following:
- Review and reach consensus on proposed business practice standards
- Participate in business/functional review of GS1 System Change Requests (CR)
- Represent the needs of the industry, not those of their company
- Ensure that the approved business model accurately reflects the CR's user/submitter's business process (GS1 System modeling support staff will develop drafts)
Recommended skills
BRG members/participants should have the following:
- Process specific knowledge as defined in the GS1 general business model
- Working knowledge of technology enabler's (ex. AIDC, GS1 XML, EDI)
- Previous involvement in the application of standards in their organisation
Technical Requirement Groups (TRG's)
These groups facilitate the development of technical solutions based on the business requirements identified by the Business Technical Requirement Groups (BRG's). Since supply chain management incorporates the physical flow of product and the corresponding electronic flow of information, technical standards must address both processes.
Therefore, the TRG's operate on a global level, not by a region, and are organised into these two global groups:
- Information Technical Requirement Group (ITRG)
The scope of ITRG is to develop and maintain Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
guidelines and supporting documentation (UCS, VICS EDI, I/C, and GS1 EANCOM
). This group also develops and maintains Extensible Markup Language (XML) schemas, schema guidelines and data dictionaries. ITRG will insure that common business functionality exists in all standards and maintain consistency of EDI guidelines and GS1 XML
standards across business functions and industry sectors. - Physical Technical Requirement Group (PTRG)
The scope of PTRG encompasses the development and application of automatic identification technology standards for information that travels on or with any physical entity. PTRG is responsible for the standard's impact on data accuracy, data and carrier quality, carrier performance, and all ergonomic factors related to the physical flow of the supply chain. This includes standards for barcodes, radio frequency identification, and emerging technologies and their associated printing and data capture processes and devices (both mobile and fixed).
Responsibilities
The role of a TRG member/participant includes the following:
- Responsible for approving EDI and GS1 XML standards through EDI guidelines and XML standards
- It is recommended that ITRG contributes in Technical Development Team (TDT) activities
Recommended skills
TRG members/participants should have the following:
- In depth knowledge of EDI and/or GS1 XML technology enabler's
- Ability to incorporate new business standards to existing EDI and GS1 XML standards
- Previous involvement in the application of standards in their organisation
