GSMP
Local GSMP
It has been recognised through out the GS1 community that, as the Global Standards Management Process (GSMP) broadens its reach to support the many activities such as:
- Business Message Standards (GS1 XML/GS1 EANCOM)
- EPCglobal application standards
- General GS1 specifications
- Global Data Synchronisation Network (GS1 GDSN™)
- Global Product Classification (GPC)
- Process standards (e.g. Traceability)
Many local member companies currently have not had an opportunity for different reasons, to provide an adequate level of contribution across these GSMP activities. As a result GS1 Australia has established a framework where member companies who may not already be involved in the wider GSMP, can become involved at a local GSMP level. GS1 Australia has provided a conduit to the GSMP process where for two way information sharing and change request deliberations on the standards development could occur.
Local engagement objectives
The objectives for establishing a local GSMP framework are:
- Improve awareness and understanding of the value of GSMP
- Improve awareness of how the GSMP process works
- Showcase implementations of the standards through case studies, information sharing and presentations
- Provide networking opportunity between industry experts within local industries, with possible extensions to other regions and globally
- Simplify the platform to accelerate local business requirements into GSMP
How to get involved in the local GSMP chapters
GS1 Australia member companies can become involved in the GSMP via local GSMP chapters which have been established by GS1 Australia to mirror the operations of various GSMP working and technical groups. While not every GSMP group will have a local chapter equivalent, GS1 Australia will establish groups where there is a direct benefit to GS1 Australia membership or where local input is sought into the GSMP process for the success of producing a global solution, where local attributes, conditions and requirements are considered.
GS1 Australia member companies can participate in any of the established local GSMP chapters listed below by sending an email to its convener requesting for future meeting dates and an invitation:
- Local Chapter Information Technical Reference Group
- Local Chapter Physical Technical Reference Group
If a local GSMP group is not listed and interest in sought to establish a mirror GSMP group, please send an email to GS1 Australia GSMP Conveyor.
For more details on the various GSMP groups view the GSMP Participation Matrix.
Each local chapter has its own secured login site for participating members to access work papers, meeting minutes, etc. While access to the local groups is open to any interested company (member or non member), voting on any change requests relating to the GS1 System or positions of chair, co chairs or minute taker will be exclusive for GS1 Australia members.
A background of the participant will usually be required including the business reasons for involvement and the expected outcomes the participant would like to achieve from the group.
All participation is voluntary and costs for travel to and from meeting venues and any pre or post meeting related activities will need to be borne by participants. GS1 Australia will endeavor to use phone and/or video conference facilities to minimise costs and widen participation.
