Upstream
An Australian Industry Initiative
The Australian Food and Grocery Council, together with GS1 Australia and key FMCG manufacturers and suppliers have completed a project that will lead to the implementation of GUSI standards in the Australian FMCG sector.
Achievements
The project started in late 2007 and achieved the following:
- Review the GUSI Upstream Integration Model v2.2 to explore and confirm that there are no “show stoppers” in the model that would make it impossible or commercially or technically undesirable to use this standard model for upstream integration in Australia and New Zealand FMCG sectors
- Identify and initiate any changes, enhancements or additions needed to successfully deploy GUSI in Australia and New Zealand (i.e. Standard SSCC Labels for Raw Materials, etc)
- Identify key trading partners covering at least 90% of upstream business in the FMCG sector and ensure they are aware of the project at appropriate levels of engagement
- Publish an implementation call to action to industry
- Develop an Australian Toolkit for GUSI Implementation to assist implementers with their projects
- Launch, promote and facilitate GUSI adoption in Australia and New Zealand
This project is now complete and has resulted in the endorsement of the GUSI standard by Australian key FMCG manufacturers.
This endorsement provides a foundational element in the rollout of eCommerce between FMCG manufacturers and their key suppliers and suppliers can now be certain that any investment in implementing this standard would be leveraged with many of their customers.
