Monash Pharmacy Project
The project is led by the Pharmacy Department of Monash Medical Centre (a hospital within the Southern Health Area Health Service in Victoria), chaired by Health Purchasing Victoria, and project managed by GS1 Australia.
To date, the project has been undertaken in a phased approach.
Phase One
Phase One was concluded mid-2004, demonstrated that the GS1 System could be successfully implemented within the Hospital Pharmaceutical Supply Chain. This phase incorporated the use of EANCOM® format electronic purchase orders, purchase order acknowledgements and dispatch advice messages between suppliers and the Monash Medical Centre Hospital Pharmacy. In addition one participant applied GS1 identifiers and BarCodes to shipper and inner level product packaging.
Phase Two
Phase Two commenced in mid-2005. This phase involved broader implementation roll out of the processes used during the demonstration phase – to additional suppliers as well as all hospitals in the Southern Health network. In parallel and there was roll out of the functionality by other public hospitals. In addition, the scope was expanded to include data synchronisation via the National Product Catalogue (NPC).
Phase Three
Phase Three will commence in early to mid-2008. To register your interest to participate, please contact Georgia Blomberg, via email.
