Background
GS1 Australia is working with both retailers and suppliers in the Electrical Appliance industry sector to drive best practice supply chain principles across the entire sector. Adoption of the GS1 standards (Numbering and Barcoding, eMessaging and Electronic Data Synchronisation) will bring improved business efficiency and effectiveness for all companies within the supply chain.
The current level of adoption of the GS1 standards within the Electrical Appliance industry sector is varied, and has focussed predominantly on eMessaging (EDI). The development of eMessaging was facilitated through a working group set up to meet the requirements of the Electrical Appliance Industry, Applie-com. In all, eight Message Implementation Guides were developed (see Information Library for more details) in addition to an Industry Numbering and Barcoding guidelines document. In mid 2007, Applie-com was wound down as it had delivered on it’s original charter.
Electronic Data Synchronisation within the industry sector, via the GS1net™ data pool, is set to commence late 2007, early 2008. Electronic Data Synchronisation is seen as a fundamental requirement for successful electronic messaging.
