Background
The Australian Automotive Aftermarket industry has worked closely with GS1 Australia to develop a set of implementation guides covering Number and Barcoding, eMessaging and Data Synchronisation (under development).
In association with the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association, the AutoEtrade website was set up to assist both suppliers and retailers keen on implementing open standards based supply chains.
Electronic Data Synchronisation within the industry sector, via the GS1net™ data pool, is set to commence late 2007, early 2008. Several suppliers in the Automotive Aftermarket sector are currently involved in data synchronisation within the Grocery industry sector and have realised benefits to their organisations. Electronic Data Synchronisation is seen as a fundamental requirement for successful electronic messaging.
Key Associations
- The Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) represents the interests of over 850 members of the Australian Automotive Aftermarket industry. The AAAA has been a strong supporter of the GS1 System and has been a key driver in working with its members to implement open global standards in the supply chain.

Industry Initiatives
AutoEtrade
contains a set of industry guidelines that enable the automotive aftermarket industry to exchange information, including orders, electronically, thereby improving the speed and accuracy of commerce in the industry.
autoEtrade has been developed by the Australian Automotive Aftermarket industry and GS1 Australia to meet the specific requirements of the industry and are based on the GS1 Global set of standards.
Data Synchronisation Project
The Automotive Aftermarket industry will be following the lead of Australia’s Retail Grocery, Liquor and Health sectors in implementing an electronic standards based data synchronisation process replacing the current manual and often error ridden forms based process.
An initial Data Synchronisation pilot was recently completed using the EANnet® data synchronisation tool. Participants in this pilot included Auto Concepts, Clutch Industries, Coventry Group, GUD holdings, NGK Spark Plug, Repco and Super Cheap Auto.
The next phase of the project is to begin rollout out Data Synchronisation using the GDSN™ compliant local data pool GS1net.
