How to buy a barcode

Depending on your annual turnover, you can get one barcode number or thousands.

You pay an annual licence fee for your barcode numbers, which is renewed each July. The fee depends on your turnover and the number of barcodes you've licensed.

Once you place your order, you will then get access to your numbers within a few minutes. We'll also send you helpful hints to get you started and access to the MyGS1 portal to start using your numbers and creating barcode images.

If you don't want to join online you can download manual forms. Please allow two business days to process your manual application.

Amazon has confirmed it checks to ensure that all GTINs (UPCs) loaded into its system are authentic barcodes from GS1. It makes the following statement in its seller central area.

"We verify the authenticity of product UPCs by checking the GS1 database. UPCs that do not match the information provided by GS1 will be considered invalid. We recommend obtaining your UPCs directly from GS1 (and not from other third parties selling UPC licences) to ensure that the appropriate information is reflected in the GS1 database."
