June – August 2008
Introduction
Together with the members of the GS1 Healthcare User Group Australasia, GS1 Australia and New Zealand are conducting a series of Healthcare Industry education seminars that aim to provide a pathway for education about the GS1 System and its application in the Healthcare sector.
Topics, dates and times for these seminars are as follows:
| Topic | Description | Date | Time (AEST) |
| What’s happening in Healthcare? | A high level session providing an overview of the current national and international use of the GS1 System in healthcare. | 23 June | 2pm – 3pm |
| Introduction to GS1 Numbering for Healthcare* | A more detailed session providing information about: • How to allocate Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) to Healthcare trade items; • Global Location Numbers (GLNs) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSSCs), and their use; • GS1 numbering for special applications – assets, service relationships, documents. |
25 June | 2pm – 3pm |
| GS1 BarCodes for Healthcare | An overview session discussing the different GS1 BarCodes and their particular applications in the Healthcare supply chain. The session will include technical information about barcode printing considerations. | 1 July | 2pm – 3pm |
| The National Product Catalogue (NPC) | An introductory session discussing data synchronisation and the National Product Catalogue. Topics covered will include an overview of data synchronisation, introduction to the NPC and how to get started implementing the NPC. | 3 July | 2pm – 3pm |

| GS1 EPC/RFID in Healthcare | The aim of this session is to provide attendees with a high level understanding of the GS1 EPC/RFID standards and the potential for their application in the Healthcare sector. Content delivered will include case studies regarding current EPC/RFID applications. | 26 August | 2pm – 3pm |
*This session should be considered a precursor for the barcodes, NPC, eCOM and EPC/RFID sessions as these later sessions will require a level of assumed knowledge about GS1 Numbering.
Note: Sessions will be repeated three times annually, with the next series to be scheduled for October/November 2008.
Location
With the exception of the EPC/RFID session (which is a webinar only session), all seminars will be run via webinar, with face to face meeting facilities offered at GS1 Australia Head Office (100/45 Gilby Road, Mount Waverley, Victoria).
