GS1 Healthcare Education Series
November - December 2008
Together with the members of the GS1 Healthcare User Group Australasia, GS1 Australia and New Zealand are conducting a series of Healthcare Industry education seminars that aim to provide a pathway for education about the GS1 System and its application in the Healthcare sector.
Topics, dates and times for these seminars are as follows:

| What’s happening in Healthcare? | A high level session providing an overview of the current national and international use of the GS1 System in healthcare. |

| Introduction to GS1 Numbering for Healthcare* |
A more detailed session providing information about: • How to allocate Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) to Healthcare trade items; • Global Location Numbers (GLNs) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSSCs), and their use; • GS1 numbering for special applications – assets, service relationships, and documents. |

| GS1 BarCodes for Healthcare (1) | An overview session discussing the different GS1 barcodes and their particular applications for Healthcare Trade Items. The session will include technical information about barcode printing considerations. | Tuesday 18th November 2pm - 3pm |
| GS1 BarCodes for Healthcare (2) | A session discussing GS1 BarCode applications for Healthcare logistics units, assets, patient identification, document identification, and other applications. Information will also be provided about newer GS1 barcode standards – GS1 DataBar and GS1 Data Matrix, as well as their applicability to healthcare. |

| The National Product Catalogue (NPC) | An introductory session discussing data synchronisation and the National Product Catalogue. Topics covered will include an overview of data synchronisation, introduction to the NPC and how to get started implementing the NPC. |

| GS1 eCOM for Healthcare | This semi-technical session will introduce the two GS1 eCOM standards – GS1 EANCOM and GS1 XML and discuss their application in Healthcare. An overview of the NEHTA eProcurement Strategy and its use of GS1 XML will be provided. |

| GS1 EPC/RFID in Healthcare | The aim of this session is to provide attendees with a high level understanding of the GS1 EPC/RFID standards and the potential for their application in the Healthcare sector. Content delivered will include case studies regarding current EPC/RFID applications. |
Tuesday 2nd December 2pm - 3pm |
Note: All times are specified as the Australian East Coast Time Zone
*This session should be considered a precursor for the barcodes, NPC, eCOM and EPC/RFID sessions as these later seminars will require a level of assumed knowledge about GS1 Numbering.
Sessions will be repeated three times annually, with the next series to be scheduled for February/March 2009.
Location
All seminars will be run via teleconference. Presentations will be provided to attendees prior to the session.
